William Meyer, a retired U.S. Air Force veteran, found The Enlisted Kidney Foundation through Facebook—and immediately felt a connection to our mission. Like so many of us, his journey with kidney disease began silently. In 2012, his rising creatinine levels caught the attention of his VA doctor, leading to a stage 4 CKD diagnosis by 2015.
After a failed fistula surgery and a heart attack just weeks later, William began dialysis. Three years would pass before he received a second chance at life—a kidney from a donor in California. Originally from Long Island, NY, William knows firsthand the challenges of organ shortages.
“New York has one of the lowest organ donor rates in the country. I want to change that.”
Now, William is ready for a new mission: spreading awareness about organ donation and standing beside other veterans facing similar health battles. We’re honored he found us—and proud to have him in the fight.
